Yet another col

Just over a week to go until Les Veloistes Gentils gather in Geneva at the start of our 2010 ride. The guys are definitely getting excited if the emails flying around are anything to go by.

As if the 700km and 10,000m of climbing wasn’t enough, I realised that by slightly altering the route of our third day’s ride – from Briancon to Digne-les-Bains – we could take in another famous climb, the Col d’Izoard, and only add about 25km to the day’s distance. I say ‘only’…it’ll actually make it our longest day at a shade under 170km. But it’s too good an opportunity to pass up, right?

Going up the Izoard, which tops out at 2,361m, also adds about 1,100m of climbing to the ride. So make that 11,000m of climbing in five days…

But I hear it’s really pretty.
